Privacy policy
What we collect, why, who holds it, and what you can ask us to do. Last updated 7 October 2026.
Who we are
This website is run by Hillward Consulting, Abuja, Nigeria, led by Williams Malachy. We are responsible for the personal information described here. You can reach us at info@hillwardconsults.com.
The law we follow
We handle personal information in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the guidance of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
What we collect, and why
- When you contact us by email or WhatsApp: your name, contact details and what you tell us. We use it to reply, to understand your needs and, if you wish, to send a quote. Our reason is your request (and, for follow-up, our legitimate interest in serving you).
- When you join the weekly note: your email address and, if the form asks for it, your first name, with your consent, to send you the weekly note every Thursday. We use Sender (sender.net), an email service, to keep the list and send the emails. You confirm your subscription by clicking a link in a confirmation email, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
- When you visit this website: the website and our hosting provider keep basic technical records, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you open, to keep the site working and secure.
- Comments (only if we switch them on): the name, email address and message you submit, plus your IP address, to show your comment and limit spam.
- Visit statistics: we use Google Analytics, set up through Google’s Site Kit plugin, to count visits and see which pages are read. It records things like the pages viewed, your approximate location, and your device and browser, and it uses cookies to tell visits apart. It does not tell us who you are. Google processes this information and may do so outside Nigeria.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to make decisions about you by automated means.
Cookies
This site uses the cookies it needs to work. Google Analytics also sets cookies to measure visits, and the weekly note signup form (provided by Sender) may set cookies when you use it. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, the site still works, but we will not be able to count your visit.
Who we share it with
Only with the service providers who help us run the site and communicate with you, such as our web hosting company (Namecheap), our email provider, Sender (for the weekly note) and Google (for visit statistics). They may process information outside Nigeria. Where that happens, we choose providers that protect personal information, as the law requires. We may also share information if the law demands it.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry messages only as long as needed to deal with your request and any follow-up work, then delete or anonymise them within 24 months after our last contact. Weekly note subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe.
How we protect it
We use strong passwords, two-step sign-in where it is available, regular updates and backups. No system is perfectly safe. If a breach ever puts your information at risk, we will act quickly and tell you and the NDPC as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your information, or stop using it, where the law allows;
- stop sending you the weekly note, and withdraw any consent you gave, at any time;
- object to how we use your information.
Email info@hillwardconsults.com and we will reply within a reasonable time. If you are not happy with our answer, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Children
This website is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top.
